Web 2.0 Summit: Google detalha projeto de banco de dados médico

Apenas um mês após o líder do projeto de informações sobre saúde sair do Google, a vice-presidente que o substituiu interinamente reiterou o compromisso da companhia com seus planos.

Marissa Mayer, vice-presidente de produtos de busca e experiência de usuários, explicou as motivações do Google em sua iniciativa de saúde durante o evento Web 2.0 Summit, em São Francisco, que o IDG Now! acompanha em tempo real pelo Twitter.

"Houve muita especulação sobre o que o Google faria que gostaríamos de esclarecer nossos interesses e intenções", afirmou em entrevista após a apresentação.

Essencialmente, o Google reconhece que a maioria das pessoas começa a buscar dados sobre saúde nos buscadores, ao invés de sites especializados no assunto, o que faz com que o Google veja demanda por uma experiência de busca melhor para este nicho, afirmou.

Ao mesmo tempo, a indústria gera muitos dados que o Google está em boa posição para ajudar a organizar e tornar disponível para pacientes e famílias, afirmou ela.

"Não estamos tentando ser tudo para todos, mas a maioria de usuários procurando por informações de saúde está vindo a nós. E existem problemas de ciência bastante interessantes a serem resolvidos para apenas acumular dados", disse.

Ao digitalizar registros médicos e dar controle deles para seus pacientes, eles poderão tomar decisões mais acertadas, afirmou ela durante sua apresentação.

Com registros médicos armazenados em um servidor central, pacientes poderão acessá-los a partir de onde quiserem, para que, em uma emergência, responsáveis por cuidados médicos não acostumados com o caso possam ter uma visão compreensiva do histórico do paciente, afirmou ela.

Os usuários também adorariam compartilhar rapidamente registros com famílias e amigos escolhidos, segundo ela.

Quando a saída de Adam Bosworth foi confirmada pelo Google, a companhia afirmou que seu projeto de saúde estava vivo, e que Mayer comandaria a divisão até que um substituto permanente fosse encontrado.

O projeto ainda não resultou em nenhum produto ou serviço específico, mas, em agosto,o jornal New York Times reportou que o Google mostrou os primeiros protótipos do Google Health, onde usuários poderiam criar perfis pessoais com dados sobre doenças e medicamentos ministrados, para profissionais da área.
