Google SearchWiki: impacto em resultados orgânicos?

Um dos mais polêmicos lançamentos do Google, o SearchWiki, levanta alguns questionamentos em relação ao impacto de seu uso no resultado das buscas orgânicas. Você acha que isso muda alguma coisa?

Google SearchWiki: impacto em resultados orgânicos?

Há tempo já se sabe que o Google testa novas funcionalidades em sua página de resultados de busca. Mexe daqui e mexe dali há algumas semanas atrás uma delas passou pelos testes e foi finalmente promovida, a SearchWiki, que rapidamente se tornou um dos mais comentados lançamentos do Google nos últimos tempos. Alguns gostaram, outros nem tanto.

A SearchWiki é basicamente uma série de botões e links que permitem ao usuário personalizar seus resultados orgânicos - removendo, adicionando, movendo listagens e até adicionando comentários – que ficam disponíveis para outros usuários, detalhe: a SearchWiki só é visível para usuários que estiverem logados em suas contas do Google. Ou seja, se você remover um site dos seus resultados, adicionar um site ou até mesmo escrever algum comentário sobre um site que você gosta, apenas você verá estas modificações.

Impacto em SEO?

Mas minha intenção não é explicar como a SearchWiki funciona (veja aqui), mas sim discutir com vocês e questionar: existe algum impacto desta personalização das listagens na maneira como o Google posiciona os resultados orgânicos para usuários não logados?

Vejam o que diz Matt MacGee, do portal Search Engine Land, sobre uma conversa que ele teve com o gerente do produto no Google, Cedric Dupont:

Google emphasizes that changes made in the SearchWiki interface will have no impact on the traditional ranking of web pages. If you put your own site in the 1st position for your primary keywords, you’re the only Google user who’ll see your site at the top of the rankings. Your site will, however, be included when users click the “See all notes for this SearchWiki” link at the bottom of the page; that link leads to another page that shows what results other users have re-ordered, removed, or added.

Still, Dupont didn’t completely rule out the possibility that user data from SearchWiki may someday impact regular search rankings. I asked what would happen if 10,000 people all added “Matt McGee’s Widget Page” to their own results for the phrase [widget]. “We’re always looking at user data as a signal,” Dupont says. And in a situation like that? “We’re not closing any doors.”

O que chama mais atenção na conversa é a frase de Dupont: “We’re always looking at user data as a signal”. O que parece é que as personalizações ainda não tem participação no modo como o mecanismo de busca posiciona seus resultados orgânicos, mas que isto pode mudar no futuro.

Outro ponto interessante na questão levantada por Matt é se os resultados seriam afetados caso 10.000 usuários logados em suas contas adicionassem um determinado site aos seus resultados, ou seja, seria a quantidade de “votos” algo a ser levado em conta? Pergunto: mas isso não abriria espaço para spammers criarem milhares de contas no Google e começarem a “posicionar” seus sites?

Imagino que o Google tenha pensando nisso e já tenha ferramentas para proteger os resultados, mas ainda assim, como a grande maioria de outros “sites sociais”, me parece muito aberto à manipulação.

A verdade é que ainda é muito cedo para se saber. Acredito que vai ter muita gente quebrando a cabeça por aí e fazendo dezenas de testes, é esperar para ver ou botar a mão na massa e fazer você mesmo.
